Training Service Accreditation (TSA)

"The purpose of this scheme is to improve the quality and consistency of the training service across the trust, providing recognition of a quality standard to internal and external users of our service."

Carolyn Mawdesley
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Training Service Accreditation (TSA) is a collaborative development between the Training Quality Improvement (TQI) team at NHS Digital and the TQI National Reference Group, made up of NHS training professionals.

It was established following extensive consultation with the education and training community in the NHS, who advised that such a scheme would help training services drive continuous improvement at all stages of their training design and delivery using self-assessment and external validation. The scheme aims to:

  • validate training service performance against the existing national Education and Training Standards.
  • encourage service improvement.
  • recognise and demonstrate quality and efficiencies within training services across the NHS.

The accreditation scheme has been piloted and validated with 21 training services, and is now available to NHS organisations across England as a chargeable service.
