Notes to editors

  1. The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) was established on April 1 2013 as an Executive Non Departmental Public Body (ENDPB). It is England's trusted data source, delivering high quality information and IT systems to drive better patient services, care and outcomes. Its work includes publishing more than 220 statistical publications annually; providing a range of specialist data services; managing informatics projects and programmes and developing and assuring national systems against appropriate contractual, clinical safety and information standards.
  2. The Assuring Transformation data collection is mandated under the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
  3. Assuring Transformation data were previously collected and published by NHS England on a quarterly basis. Responsibilities for their collection and publication were transferred to the Health and Social Care Information Centre from January 2015. More information can be found here: http://www.hscic.gov.uk/assuringtransformation
  4. Approximately 30 per cent of commissioners submitted data after the data extraction date for the first monthly release. As the data submission rate and the quality of submitted data improves with time, it is expected that there will be an increase in the scope of the monthly reporting, including additional measures for patients receiving inpatient care at the end of the reporting period.
  5. Places of transfer listed within the data collection can be found within the Instruction and Guidance Notes. More information can be found here: http://www.hscic.gov.uk/assuringtransformation.
  6. A comparison of the Learning Disability Census and Assuring Transformation data will be included with the first release of monthly Learning Disability Services Statistics reports. Information about the Learning Disability Census can be found here: http://www.hscic.gov.uk/ldcensus
