Leading Leeds employer proud to celebrate diversity at the heart of the city

5 August 2016: Forty staff from major Leeds employer NHS Digital are preparing to parade through the streets for the 10th anniversary of Leeds Pride.

The national health and care information and technology provider will for the first time take part in the city's celebration of its lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community this weekend.

NHS Digital, the new name for the Health and Social Care Information Centre, headquartered in Trevelyan Square, places the diversity of its staff and prospective employees as critical to its national role in supporting front line health and care services.

NHS Digital communications officer Leon Rushworth, who is taking part in the parade, said: "It's exciting to be joining in for the first time, celebrating Leeds Pride's tenth birthday, as well as showing off our diversity.

"It is something for the LGBT community of NHS Digital to get involved in, while showing off the new branding of one of the leading employers in Leeds."

NHS Digital director of customer relations Isabel Hunt, lead representative for equality and diversity, emphasised the importance of diversity in attracting the best talent in the industry, especially when based in a city that is growing as a "digital powerhouse".

"Our staff are really committed to this event and we are extremely proud to support it," she said.

NHS Digital Chair, Noel Gordon, said: "Building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the population we serve is good business sense and we are committed to developing a culture that not only values and understands difference, but embraces it and draws on it to spark innovation."

From 1pm on Sunday, NHS Digital will join the Pride march through Leeds city centre.
