FGM Risk Indication System (FGM RIS) - Local System Integration

About this information standard

Please note -  the implementation guidance is currently being reviewed, and whilst no major changes are anticipated the attached should be treated as draft at this time.

The Department of Health has commissioned NHS Digital to implement a national Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Risk Indication System (FGM RIS) as part of the Department's wider FGM Prevention Programme. This System provides the functionality to allow a health care professional to indicate where they consider that a girl is at risk of female genital mutilation.

This information standard works alongside the FGM RIS and makes provision for the data held within the System to be made available to all relevant health care staff by allowing integration of a view only capability of the risk indicator within local NHS IT systems. This will allow fully integrated local query and response access to national FGM risk data.

This information standard is published under section 250 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. An Information Standards Notice (see below) provides an overview of scope and implementation timescales and the other listed documents provide further detail for those who have to implement the information standard.
